Dear Beautiful Soul
I have spent over two decades immersed in the world of psychology, self development and spirituality - it is my greatest passion but it all really started as a way to ‘fix’ myself.
Yet, it felt like I would overcome one issue and another would show up - often more painful than the last.
Isn’t that all we really want in life - just to be happy and know that everything is ok. BUT there is no fairy-tale ending, there is no happily ever after BECAUSE that means it is the end of the story.
As long as life is happening there will be grief and pain just as there will be love and moments of joy. Life is always going to happen and we have to show up for it regardless, we need to find a way to be ok and handle whatever life throws at us. Exploring and gaining a deeper understanding of what is truely happening in our inner and outer worlds makes the human experience easier and less painful. Writing Therapy is the best way that I have found to help do that - over and over again.
During my studies, I found it beneficial when I would email my counselling Lecturers with a problem and they would reply back. I loved that I could reread their answers, and as my thought process evolved, sometimes their words would take on a different meaning. I loved how their reply made me think more deeply and would open up my understanding of things on different levels.
That was over a decade ago and since then I have worked as a Counsellor with many people in a variety of ways, yet I still prefer intensive therapy (like on a retreat), and Writing Therapy because I believe it to be far superior, more effective, and produce results in less time.
As a Counsellor, I started using Writing Therapy (Email Counselling) when women from different countries would message me asking for help after reading articles I had written, (this was before COVID and online therapy wasn't really a thing yet). Often there was a time difference so it was easier for me to communicate with them through email, working this way I learnt how effective combining therapy and writing was.
Helping women to deepen their awareness of who they are, explore their story to heal emotional wounds and navigate life challenges using writing therapy is truly an honour, I love working in such a profoundly meaningful creative and unique way. It also has the ability to teach people how to do it for themselves, thereby giving them a valuable life skill.
Love Belinda
I have been married to my husband, Tony for 23 years. We have a 20 year old daughter, an 11 year old son, 3 cats and a therapy dog called Alfred (who is really bad at his job). We live in the lovely little town of Oxford in Canterbury, New Zealand.
When my daughter was a teenager at College, she experienced severe anxiety and panic attacks. Gifts are my love language, so I wanted to give her something thoughtful that might help. There wasn't much available to give someone going through a difficult time - so I created a few things that could be used in a therapeutic way and that's how the Soulful Moment Therapeutic Gift Collection started.
I have been a Counsellor for over 10 years. I am an Intuitive Integrative Therapist and use different therapeutic modalities depending on the person and their needs, (but my favourite is probably Narrative Therapy which is perfect for using with Writing Therapy). I have Bachelor of Counselling + Diplomas in Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy. I am a Full Member of the NZCCA.
I love to write; writing has to be the most helpful, profound, transformative, healing and life changing practice for me.
Books are my happy place, I especially love reading anything about self development, self awareness and spirituality. Existential Fantasy is my favourite genre (like The Midnight Library, The Measure and Before the Coffee gets Cold).
One of my favourite things to do is go on a retreat - which I have been doing for over 20 years. I have had some truly amazing experiences like working with shamans in the Amazon Jungle, staying at an Ayurvedic Centre in India, and attending a silent retreat in Assisi Italy, just to name a few. In all honesty, I didn't need to go so far (or even leave home) to learn what I did on those retreats so I have taken that knowledge and experience to guide people on their own Soul Searching Retreat.
Soul Searching retreats for healing, discovery and growth
Therapy is expensive, I know because I have spent thousands of dollars on therapy - some helped, some didn't - not to the extent I wanted it to, but I found writing to be so helpful and healing which is why I work the way I do.
Everything in life is expensive, but therapy is an investment in your mental, emotional and spiritual health. Perhaps instead of asking if paying for therapy is worth it - maybe the question should be:
"what is it costing you to feel the way you do?".
"What will it cost you if nothing changes?".
"What is the cost to you, if you are still carrying around unhealed emotional wounds years from now?".
What you learn in therapy is actually priceless.
Lots of people feel guilty about spending money on themselves - but you are worth it AND so are your loved ones because they will benefit if you are more clearer, calmer, and content.
